 "Excellent tent" 2009-11-28
By T. Coldenhoff (Peoria, AZ USA)
I have used this tent several times for "car camping". After years of dealing with tiny 1-2 man tents, I got fed up and searched explicitly for a tent that I could stand up straight in and not hit my head. I am six foot tall, so this tent fits the bill. It has withstood fairly decent rain and wind without problems, however it is extremely tricky to set up with only one person, and in ANY amount of wind - it is hard to prevent one corner from collapsing before running over to secure another corner. In order to securely assemble this tent, you must stake down the four corners, AND use the supplied guy wires with sufficiently beefy stakes.

For two to four people, this tent is perfect. If you are going solo, it might be overkill unless you really need the space or height.

A very well designed tent. The vertical walls increase useable space without increasing the footprint. Perfect size for two people, cots, and gear.

"Cool weather campers read this" 2009-10-13
By Phil521 (Chicago, IL USA)
This year my wife and I decided to buy a tent that we could actually stand up in, after 20 years of camping in cramped quarters and struggling to get dressed while sitting. The tent is VERY BIG, with more than enough room for the two of us and all of our gear. With its 7 foot height, we both can stand up. But the size is where the compliments on this tent stop.

We have mainly camped in the spring and fall and have occasionally encountered some cold nights. Rather than use cold weather sleeping bags, which would be too warm at times, we have always taken an electric space heater when camping in cooler weather. While we used to be able to make our previous tents toasty warm, we found out the hard way this October that the design of this tent makes it impossible to heat with our 1500 watt heater. It turns out that this tent has a ENORMOUS roof vent (maybe 6' by 6') that allows every little bit of heat to rapidly dissipate. Although the rain fly covers the roof, it does not hold in the heat at all. We literally froze the first night we used this tent when the temperature dipped into the 30s, and the second night the campground owner loaned us his 1500 watt space heater, yet we froze again with two heaters and 3000 watts of heat. And that was with no wind at all. We ultimately cut short our camping trip.

I don't know what the "power port" that this tent has was designed for. It's a 4 inch zippered slot that you can pass an extension cord through. Is this for a TV, washing machine or microwave oven? It certainly is not for a heater power cord, which is what I thought it was for when reading about the features.

As others have mentioned, the tent was quite a bit of work for two experienced people to set up. And also as others have mentioned, there are TWO door zippers that BOTH have to be opened to safely get in and out of the tent. They constantly jam on the overhanging fabric and absolutely cannot be operated with only one hand.

If size is what you need, and you need lots of ventilation for hot summer nights, this tent is it. But if you prefer to open just one door zipper to get in and out, and want to be able to operate it with just one hand, or if you expect a one-person setup, you may want to avoid this tent.

 "Heave-Ho!" 2009-10-10
By the "Cat Lady" (USA)
It's not your grandpa's, plain, mildewy canvas tent. The Copper Canyon 10 is a beautiful tent made of water repellant fabric (not breathable). Spacious for two people and palatial for one. This tent comes with heavy guaged poles (most of the weight of this tent is due to the poles). Even the fiberglass roof and fly poles are heavy guaged. Solid tent. Yep, the reviewers are "right-on" about the floor and walls being of the same guage - 1200 mm polyester taffeta. The floor has two factory taped seams and looks to be bathtub in design about seven inches off the floor. Used an inexpensive 9' X 9' footprint/tent pad. Inside, the tent has really neat features.

The set up would be easier with two people.

UPDATE: It did rain (light rainshower) for about an hour. The fabric repelled the rainwater. Can see water beading on the outside of the tent. Dry throughout the inside and interior walls. I'm very pleased with this tent!

"Copper Canyon 10 is a great tent at a good price" 2009-10-02
By Alonso's Ghost (Northeast USA)
We bought this tent after reviewing many via professional and owner reviews. It has lived up to the positive hype. Easy to set up and take down. Nice and roomy. Dry. Sturdy. Did not have much trouble with the door zipper, as some other reviewers did, but you do have to watch for it catching. Bought a good set of tent stakes - the ones it comes with will work, but they are a pretty cheap variety. Had plenty of room for a queen mattress, gear, and a chair, with room to spare. The power port let me run a cord in without worry about water or bugs. Well ventilated - is not a winter style tent. Everything fit back in the storage bag with little trouble. Looks good to. For the money, hard to beat.

 "Great Family Tent" 2009-12-26
By M. Reinke (Austin, TX)
This is a very spacious family tent, and it is very ideal for a family with teenagers, as we can easily fit (1) queen and (2) twin matresses with plenty of room for gear and to move around without disturbing others. After the first set-up (which took about 20 minutes), subsequent set-ups are completed in less than 10 minutes! Still have yet to experience inclement weather in this tent, so I cannot really comment on its ability to keep out driving rain. Like most dome tents that have a vented ceiling (covered by a fly), ventilation is great, but forget about a space heater in cold weather - the heat will not stay in.

"1 1/2 Years And Still Not Leaking Or Broken" 2009-11-16
By Patricia K. Hansel (Houston, TX)
I bought this tent for me and my husband in March or April of 2008. It has been everywhere. We love to camp, and do so frequently. We decided to get puppies (Great Danes) last year and they love the tent, too. Now at 150 lbs for Merlin and 95 lbs for Bella, you would think this would cause problems with the floor. Their paws don't tear the floor. It is virtually indestructible. It has been through high wind. Pouring rain did not penetrate the walls. Raccoons haven't broken in to get to the dog treats. I would buy it again and have reccomended it to several friends and aquaintances.

The only con to this tent is that my husband is too tall (6'5") for the Canopy thingy outside that makes a kind of porch.

"What more could you ask for?" 2009-10-28
By amcook_72 (Tennessee)
Look at my profile to see pictures of this tent in use. It seems crazy, but we purchased this tent for a family of four. We wanted to all be on cots and we wanted to be able to have space for our dogs to go with us. We could not have been happier with the way this tent worked for our family. We had so much space for all of our cots, the dogs, a bin for some of our belongings and our clothing. There was still room for the kids to sit on the floor and play games. This would be really handy when it rains while camping. This tent was easy to set up. It took about 30 minutes, but we were dealing with high wind gusts. The wind gusts didn't let up any time soon, so we used the 3 guy lines on the side of the tent that was getting the wind. We never had one issue or was worried about the tent coming down at all. The winds were reaching about 30-35mph. The people that we were camping with were worried about their tent falling over. We never had that concern. Things did seem to get a bit drafty, but the wind just would not let up, so I would have expected the same from any tent. The other family was putting a tarp over the tent to keep out some of the wind, so they must have had a lot more draft than we did. We were prepared for cold weather, so we all slept fine. The low temp was around 38 at night and we all slept o.k. With that temperature, you would expect to be cold, so we were prepared. I was a little worried that the floor would not hold up to much traffic, but it did fine. It does seem really thin compared to other tents we have owned. We put a blanket down at the entry that caught most of the dirt off of our shoes. I would like to have a bigger blanket to cover the whole floor just because it made it easy to clean the tent out. We put a tarp underneath and really didn't worry much about it after that. There was no damage. We didn't use the awning because of the time of the year it is right now. It would come in very handy over the door if the door is facing the sun at any point of the day. I guess the only issue we had (was more with the site and not the tent) was that the size of the tent was big for the site we were on. These campsites were set up with the fire ring on the tent pad. We would not have felt comfortable with having a fire that close to the tent. We ended up putting the fire on the other site since they had a smaller tent. I have seen plenty of campsites though that are not set up that way, so we won't have that problem everywhere we go. To sum it up, the people we were camping with kept saying that they needed a tent like it. We are still amazed at how big this tent actually is. We started to buy the 1312, but could not find it for a lower price. We will find out next season if the size is that big of an issue, but for now our whole family was very happy with this tent including the four legged members. If you purchase this tent, I'm sure you will be happy with your purchase.

"Eureka! Copper Canyon 1512 tent" 2009-10-05
By K. Streff (Wyoming, MN)
FABULOUS! That's all I can say about this tent. VERY easy to put up, but I suggest setting it up prior to your first outing. Very roomy and well-made. I took the advice of other commentators and purchased the 10 mil tarp for underneath since the flooring of the tent is rather thin. An excellent buy--you will be very satisfied!

 "Loving mine so far" 2009-11-29
By Adam E. Huff
This is definitely a "drive in" sort of tent. Even hauling it from a parking lot to your site is an effort. As others have noted, it's also big enough to mention when you're checking into a campground. Given that, I enjoy most aspects of this tent. I used it four times over the summer, in various kinds of weather, and it stayed upright and kept me dry. The aluminum frame is heavy, but also strong. The height and near-vertical walls make it easy to move around in, and the included divider is great when you have children. The windows are huge, and there are plenty of places to hang gear. Its size does attract attention.

One night, during heavy rain, I accidentally had the ground tarp entending beyond the floor of the tent so it caught the water and collected it under the floor. The next morning I felt like I was walking on a waterbed, but I was remarkably dry.

Stuff to keep in mind: I am 5'7" and setting it up by myself was barely achievable. In heavy rain remember to zip the power port closed. The awning is not practical in rainy situations, as it simply collects water (no matter how much you adjust the slant).

"Wow...the Taj Mahal of tents!" 2009-11-18
By Lacy S. Smith (Ocala, FL)
Wow...I love this tent. I purchased a platform for our regular sized queen air mattress and put it inside this tent and used two medium sized storage tubs stacked on top of each other on each side of the bed and it was like I was right at home. The tent we owned before this was a Columbia and it was not insulated well; it took 2 heaters to partially heat this tent and it was much smaller than the Copper Canyon. This tent was heated by one small electric heater and we had to turn it off during the night because it got so hot. I love the fact that my husband and I can both get dressed while standing up at the same time! We decided to purchase 4 moving blankets to line the floor of the tent to cut down on dirt and sand and they worked perfect. It also helped with keeping the floor warm and our dogs nails from possibly tearing any holes. If I had one complaint, it would be that the "skylight" is just silly...it's small and blurry. But...other than that...this tent is perfect. I timed my husband and he put it up in 18 minutes by himself!

 "Gigantic Huge Commodious Pretty" 2009-10-27
By J. Idso (Seattle, WA.)
If you are the kind of camper who has always considered your old, straight-walled 8X10 to be "pretty large", get one of these. It's more like a hotel room than anything else. If your party is four or less, you'll find room for everybody and all your gear.

You'll also find a tent that's easy to set up. Really. Even the first time. I set it up myself in about 30-35 minutes, including time to figure everything out. With all the numerous, large windows and doors open, it's like having the outside in. In warmer weather, the view of the trees and night sky above is a treat. In colder or wet weather, with the rain fly on and windows adjusted for conditions, it's snug and dry. The ventilation is amazing.

There are convenient and effective storage spaces. There are two large "D" doors, and right by them, two zippered small "doors" for power cables, SatRadio antennas or whatever. You can divide the interior in two, sort of. The divider hangs loosely, but probably will not be used by most people anyway.

This tent's first trip was to Mammoth Lakes' New Shady Rest Campground. Except for the occassional light traffic noise and the booming voice of the High School Friday Night Football's announcer next door, it's like being in the deep woods miles from anything. For a few minutes, we wondered if LA's Pershing Square, with it's expounders, had gone camping. The wilderness with McDonald's a ten minute walk away. Pretty nice. The camp host, Dave, stands up there with the very best, too. If you're there next year, and he's there, you won't be disappointed. Most of Mammoth is the same way.

Our party of three went away for 4 nights. There was one of those fierce Eastern Sierra Fall Windstorms before I got back, but the tent showed no signs of stress or strain. No guy-outs even. Things left on the table outside were blown around, but the Eureka had no problem. Not to worry with Dave on duty, though. He had my cell number, and said, true to his word, he would call if anything adverse happened.

And this tent is nice to look at, too. With the dappled sunlight coming through the copper and creme-colored panels, it's downright pleasant. The Eureka designers and engineers really did their work well with the Copper Canyon series. A Home Run.

Nearly any camper, experienced or not, should like this one.

"WARNING! DO NOT USE THIS TENT WITH THE STAKES THAT ARE SHIPPED WITH IT" 2009-10-17
By William R. Mcglone Jr. (Hamilton NJ)
As you will read in several reviews, DO NOT use the stakes that are sent with this tent. I did during my inital setup in my yard and ended up with a shredded tent that blew away after steady winds. I can not understand how Eureka can sell their tents with these stakes. They are simple smooth wire 1/8" diameter metal and will not hold your tent down in wind. Make sure you purchase good quality (even the plastic ones at Walmart are okay) stakes and tie the tent down as suggested. Again, several hundred dollars for a tent and they can't provide proper stakes?

So I purchased a new rain fly for about 88 bucks from Eureka, patched the holes in the screen and will say I love the tent, just a shame it doesnt look very new!

 "Thin floor leaks everywhere" 2009-09-01
By Teresa Gallagher (Shelton, CT USA)
I had high expectations of this tent since our last Eureka was amazing and kept us dry for 15 years. But our first vacation was a disaster. First, after a night of rain, we awoke to discover the front corner had collapsed after the awning had acted to collect a huge amount of rainwater and sink to the ground. We couldn't even get out the front door. After exiting out the back door, dropping the awning pole, and releasing all the trapped water, the corner sprung back up, which was good. We were sure it was broken in half.

But then the floor, which is ludicrously thin (you can almost see through it), leaked water up all over the place, not just seams or corners. Prior to camping, we had coated the bottom with Thompson's deck sealer, which we had done to our previous Eureka tent, but it didn't seem to help. Yes, we had a drop cloth under the tent, but the rain was heavy enough, and we were on a slope, that some water managed to run between the drop cloth and the tent floor in places. In all these places the water just came up right through the thin fabric.

Our last Eureka tent was once subjected to floating in 4" of water for half an hour with kids inside walking around. After the ordeal, I was amazed to find only a couple drops of water inside the tent at one of the corners. What happened to that level of quality? This tent looks attractive in the ads, but if it rains heavily it will NOT keep you dry, and isn't that the whole point of a tent?

"Great tent and water proof" 2009-12-30
By Cheryl A. Murphy (Missouri)
Bought this tent at Walmart while camping in South Dakota. Our old tent almost collapsed from the rains and literally flooded, it was like a river. Our son was using a 9x7 Coleman tent set up next to our big tent and didn't have a drop of water in it while we washed away. Made me a believer. We used this tent for myself, husband and daughter, had plenty of room it in, the back zipper flap is great for bringing in an electric cord so we didn't have to fight an electric cord every time we came in or out. Definitely a two person job to put the tent up, but no big deal. Very reasonably priced and would buy another one. Durable, well constructed, I say water proof, not just water resistent. Good windows in it, nice ventilation, you can stand up in it without hitting your head in the middle of the tent. Will use it again this summer in Colorado - can't wait.

 "Great tent!" 2009-11-27
By D. Graves (Clearwater, FL)
I set this tent up in about ten minutes with the help of a friend. It was very easy to do. I bought this for myself and my five kids. We set up two queen airbeds on either side of the tent and there was room for a third in the center. The tent is very spacious and comfortable. The weather was great so I can't speak to how it would do in the rain but the rain fly covered the tent sufficiently so I'm sure it would have been fine. I was very happy with it and my kids thought it was great!

A fairly standard large tent. I've used this on a few camping trips and it has been comfortable for our group of about 6 adults. If we were doing longer stays it may be better as a 4-5 person tent when gear is being stored inside. The high ceiling and ease of setup have been greatly appreciated.

This tent is GREAT! IT'S HUGE! Used it about 5 times this season. This thing is easy to set up, keeps you nice and dry, and looks 100% better than the picture shown when it's setup. Other reviews say it's heavy, but we never really thought about it.I can carry it without any problems and i'm not Miss muscles. You will need another bag though...we bought a big green duffel bag for it and it just makes us love the tent more cause we can fit everything in it without a problem. Excellent price, Excellent product. Looking forward to using it next season too. My 2 and 4 year old boys zip it up and rumble for an hour before bed, this tent takes it with a smile.
