 "not so easy" 2009-11-14
By J. PALMIOTTI (ny/florida)
well...it took a half hour for me to figure out how to put it together...and once it was together, good product. taking it apart was a real problem because the poles kept opening where they suppose to lock and then getting it back into the bag was next to impossible...so now its in a pile in the trunk of my car. the bag itself should be at least 6 inches bigger. Yes, i am not great at packing things, so if you arent as well...you will have the same problem.

 "Worked well for us" 2009-09-18
By Rydley (Minneapolis, MN United States)
We bought this last-minute after doing some hasty research and were very happy with it. We only used it twice during our lake vacation (unseasonably cool weather has a tendency to dampen beach-going!) but, as advertised, it was easy to set up, felt spacious and provided a nice mixture of shade and lunch- and snack-eating shelter for our three little beach-goers (ages 4, 3 and 2) and their rotating adult sentries.

 "perfect beach suntent" 2009-05-16
By D. Walker (atlanta, ga)

Was very impressed with the easy assembly of this suntent...it is very lightweight and comes with a duffle for easy storage after use...we used this suntent at the beach this spring and it was great, allowed air to circulate and dried very quickly so that we could pack it back in the duffle for travel..i can highly recommend this product for ease of use and for effectively sheltering you from the sun, it was also very roomy inside..it was exactly what i was looking for to take to the beach to limit sun exposure and still be able to enjoy reading or napping near the water...

 "Excellent Tent!" 2009-12-09
By Monty (Mobile, AL)
This tent was an excellent buy! 7x7 from my experience means a 1-2 people tent at most. You can sleep 3 in there but they either have to be really small 3 or ready to be sleeping right next to each other with no space what so ever. I used a tarp underneath the tent, it helped greatly keeping it dry. Also the rain fly worked great. For the 3 days i was camping in heavy mist and dew, the walls of the tent were soaked. But the rain fly really helped. Anything touching the inside walls of the tent will get wet. I would highly recommend having your blanket pillows or anything else that can get wet in protective bags or you can leave them in the car until needed as we did. Over all great product. Next purchase would be a bigger tent! (For a 1 person tent ...its awesome! )

"Dim, fragile, and poorly designed" 2009-12-07
By Samuel Van Oort
Received as a gift, and found 3 major problems soon afterward.

1)The lantern is very dim, even at the highest setting -- it's no brighter than a 25W bulb or a weak flashlight

2)Battery housing and knob to control brightness are very fragile -- my knob is broken and permanently at one setting, and I have had to glue the cracked battery housing together twice.

3)Light is not well dispersed -- it goes in a bunch of tiny spots outward from the LEDs, and you get yawning dim gaps when you hold it up.

All in all, an inferior product -- my next lantern will be a classic mantled naptha lantern.

 "Emerson 12 LED Lantern" 2008-09-15
By Xavier Ducats (Seattle, WA)
The lantern is bigger than I thought it would be, but not as bright. The light is harsh. The batteries should last far longer than the similar sized incandescent lantern I have, but I'd rather have more pleasant lighting unless it was an emergency backup.

At least it doesn't hiss like the old Coleman gas lanterns.

"great for families with little kids" 2009-09-06
By M. Drain (Baltimore, MD)
I have twin one yr olds and no time to set up umbrellas or traditional tents. This popped opened as promised and closed easily. The side windows were just enough to let air through while blocking the sun. The only thing I suggest is leaving the directions to fold back down in the carrying case. We spent maybe 10 minutes with it on the beach one day because it had been a while since we used it and neither my husband nor I remember how to get it down correctly. We eventually got it down when I remembered I put the directions in there with it. It also was great in the case taking up no room at all in the car! (I think I actually put it under someones seat)

"A fun and easy beach cabana" 2009-08-21
By S. Keaton (Los Angeles)
I really enjoy this beach tent and have taken it to the beach several times. It goes up easily (pop) and is also easy to fold down and stow as long as you practice it a couple of times at home. I watched a few videos off of u-tube that were very helpful. Another aspect I like about this tent is that the back can either be zipped closed or comepletely open for a nice cross breeze. Also, the outside pockets can be filled with sand to hold the cabana down in breezy weather. The one drawback to the cabana is that it is open on the front side so it cannot be closed for complete privacy. That is the one thing I would change about this cabana. Otherwise, I've really enjoyed using it.

 "be aware" 2009-08-01
By S. Zontak (Brooklyn NY)
I love this tent. Much better then beach umbrella. Easy to use. The only thing is that i live in NY and last time we went to the Coney Island Beach we have been approached by security people and told that we cannot use tent on the public beach. I tried to argue and explain them that it is beach cabana, but it was pointless. They were about to call their superviser and write me a ticket. So, sadly to say i had to closed it down. Besides that this is an excelent tent.

 "Great Tent with a Time-Honored Design" 2009-06-27
By PhysicsGuy
I grew up with this type of "pop-up" tent and now that I have my own family I realized that I needed another one. This tent design has been around for 14 years now. In that time period I haven't found a more simple, easy to use, or more portable tent for lounging away from the sun between beach activities. I like being able to just throw the thing into the air, watch it expand mid-flight, and then have a setup tent in front of me (hopefully in the future everything we need will be built this way!). Fold down is very easy once you see/do it once and when folded you get a very compact circle that can fit pretty flat on the floor of a car trunk (or on top of all your stuff in that car trunk). Makes trips to the beach a lot more fun + no hassle to take it = great buy.

"Don't buy the more expensive brands!!!" 2009-11-18

Great tent for the price, set-up was easy, roomy and lightweight which is important. We plan to Hike the AT Tennessee portion, so we wanted to go with something lightweight, but still have enough room for all our gear.

Rain fly is a good feature, don't buy the more expensive north face, black diamond, marmot, big agnes,MSR,mountain gear, etc. etc. Save the extra money for Backpacks and accessories!!!!

Bought this for my Scout. I went on the trip with him. Scotchgaurded it prior as I always do to outdoor equipment. Had heavy rain. Bone dry inside. I wouldn't say this is a two man tent for men. Two kids or one adult and a child fit great. Very easy to put up. My Scout is 11, and he did it first try.

"Best tent for the dollar" 2009-02-14
By H. M. Johnson III (L.A. California)
I am a GEARhead. I own or have owned over 30 tents plus all the fixings... Both backpacking as well as car camping. This tent as far as I know did not exist when I rewalked Colin Fletcher's 1000 Mile Summer through California. Had it, I would've of used the 1.5 model. After getting home and settling in from my walk I ran across both the 1.5 and 2. I own both now and can say they both are killer deals in their price range. And yes I own SD, REI, Kelty, Coleman/Exponent, Moss, Slumberjack Bivy (I used) and on and on and on... I have tried many while hiking in the Olympic Mountains in WA. I would put this model(s) up against any listed. If you have money to burn yes there are some that may be better at lasting a little longer but I question that too... and yes you can go lighter in weight... but by going lighter you'll give up a lot of comfort and the security you get knowing that you have a shelter that will handle just about anything Mother nature throws at you. Alps other models I'm not sure of size VS. weight and the value VS. dollars. But this model is absolutely great.

Good luck on your hikes,

Hersh

"Perfect tent for Dad and Lad!" 2009-10-28
By Randall L. Rudeen (Allen, Texas USA)
I purchased this tent for a Dad and Lad Scout campout this last weekend. I was able to get it from Academy marked down to $59.99. Felt I got a great deal. My son and I arrived at camp right at dusk and the tent went up easily and quickly, even in the dark. The temperatures reached the low 40s both nights and we stayed comfortable and dry. I love the extra pockets included for small gear storage. With two air mattresses and our gear, we probably couldn't have fit anyone else in the tent...but perfect for the two of us. I plan on buying cots for the next campout so we can store our stuff under them, thus creating more space.

 "Suprisingly disappointed" 2009-08-30
By Jonathan Brett
I have owned an 8 x 8 tent made by Eureka (Gander Mountain label) for about 8 years and it is an excellent tent. I also own a 7 x 8 tent made by Kelty which is also and excellent tent. I take great care of my tents as well. I bought this tent with great excitement, for two reasons: It was designed more like my Kelty tent, which I love, and because it had the Eureka name, which is considered to be a great name in tents.

After unboxing the tent, I set it up in no time at all. This tent sets up VERY EASY, just like my Kelty. After getting it set up and taking a closer look at the seams, etc., I discovered that there were about 2 inches of missing stitches along one of the seams. I accepted this as merely a mass-production flaw and I stitched it up. I REALLY wanted to keep this tent. The next day, I began examing the surface of the tent fabric a bit more and discovered a couple small holes that were obviously original holes (smooth edges). At this point I was becoming skeptical of whether this tent was REALLY any better than the cheap tents you can get at Walmart. I tried to ignore these flaws, becaust at this point, I still really wanted to keep this tent because of it's ease of set-up and it's great ventilation.

The next week I took this tent on our annual Canadian adventure into northern Ontario, to be used for interior kayak camping. It set up easily, It held up good in the rain, but not great, and everything went fairly well with it for 3 nights. At this point, I had planned on keeping it. Then, upon returning home,I unpacked it to dry it out more thoroughly, and I noticed that one of the metal ferrules had just fallen off the end of one of the fly rods. I was so disappointed, as I knew I could not justify keeping this tent.

It is my opinion, based on examining a LOT of tents, that this tent, as much as I want to say otherwise, is no better in quality than those that are half the price from Walmart or similar stores. From the crooked weak stitching, to the inferior fabric, to the horribly assembled rods, I saw no reason to pay twice as much as a similar tent.

Either Eureka quality has dramatically gone down over the years, or they are having their less expensive tents built by some inferior company, and selling them with the Eureka name. One thing is absolute, this tent was not near the quality of the one I bought years ago for about the same price, not even close. I am guessing that if I kept this tent, it wouldn't have lasted more than 2 years of regular camping. I returned it.

I would have given it 3 stars because that's what it is, and AVERAGE tent. However, because it cost twice as much as the same size AVERAGE tent from Walmart, I had to deduct 1 star. If you want an average tent that will perform just as good as this one, you can get one for half the price. If you want a high-quality tent for more money, look elsewhere. I wish I could recommend this tent but I cannot.

 "Great Value!" 2009-07-21
By M. Olivas (Virginia)
In the past I rarely tent camped -- just two backpack tenting experiences (on Sado Island for Earth Festival), two car camping expeditions (in Yellowstone, then Malibu) and one week living in a platform tent while working at a Girl Scout Camp in high school.

So I was nervous about committing to a tent.

I read all kinds of reviews of mass-produced tents and higher-end tents. I'd decided that if I couldn't get a higher-end tent (a Kelty, an REI or a Eureka) at a good price I'd go with a mass-produced 4-person Quest Eagle's Peak at Dick's for [..]

I do energy work and thought "Why not use Law of Attraction for the perfect tent?"

So I wrote in my journal "I'd like the Eureka Tetragon 5 for [..] or less or even better."

The next day after lunching with my friends, I rushed to Dick's b/c I had to get up the road.

Imagine my excitement when I saw the Eureka Tetragon 8 for [..]! An unadvertised special!

It's a breeze to put up and take down, and b/c I am a camping wussy, I am happy to say it fits my full-size air-mattress with tons of room for my boyfriend (6" 4"') and me and our gear.

We didn't get the predicted rain, but am confident that it will do well.

Am considering getting some polyfil for underneath from Lowe's.

Very very happy!

"Great tent for the money" 2009-06-05
By Brian Almonrode
Having a brand new Tiger Cub and the first of many camping trips coming up this summer a new tent was in order. After reviewing many sites such as EMS, REI, I decided on a four person, 3 season tent.

The Tetragon offers a few of the most important features for me:

- Polyester construction - no nylon means longer life

- Easy setup - think Tiger Cub helper - only 2 poles!

- Desperate fly - passed the garden hose rain test with flying colors

- Right height - my 48" tall son can stand in the middle

- Light weight - not a backpacking tent but easily carried in my ruck sack

Overall, very pleased with this tent - costs a bit more than some Coleman or other large brands, but for me buying a tent from a tent company is important.

Recommend buying the footprint and the correct stakes for you anticipated soil type - this tent doesn't come with them (and shouldn't). Eureka did lose one star for the slightly lower quality stuff sacks - there's no drawstring button (the little spring-loaded clip) to keep the tent in and because the tent poles keep the rolled (or stuffed) length a bit too wide.

Highly recommend despite the 2 VERY minor issues above.

 "Super easy setup!" 2009-05-08
By Virginia Newcomb (Kansas City, MO)
I ordered this tent because I need a tent I can set it up by myself. It was so easy to set up the very first time. The two poles set up first and then, beginning at the bottom, the tent is easily snapped onto the poles. Lots of ventilation for warm weather camping, yet the fly that goes over the whole thing keeps rain out. I really love this tent.
