 "Not good below 40 degress F" 2009-12-30
By Wrenchmonkey (Sacramento, CA United States)
This thing won't work well if it's below 40 degrees F, unless you can heat the space before it gets that cold outside. Butane doesn't make for a good fuel source, it doesn't vaporize below +31F, whereas Propane vaporizes down to -48F. I can imagine putting it in a large box for a few minutes will allow it to heat itself up for full output, but that is fraught with dangers.

"Waste of time and money" 2009-12-06
By Jann Hunt (Ravensdale, WA United States)
I purchased one of these heaters and it didn't work. I returned it for a different one and it didn't work. Thinking that maybe I got the same one back, I ordered from a different company, Amazon instead of one of their affiliates, and it didn't work either. Now I am stuck with 24 of the butane canisters and no heater to go with them as other heater types use different fuel.

 "Great heater!" 2009-12-05
By Robert Jenkins
Fantastic little heater but the butane canisters are hard to find and the butane doesnt last long but the canisters are cheap enough I cant complain about that :). I love this heater. Would make a great gift for an outdoorsman, fisherman, camper, etc... Cant beat the price, compared to a propane heater this butane heater costs next to nothing. I LOVE it!!! 5 stars!!!!!

"Was a nice personal heater on a cold camping trip" 2009-11-09
By Scott O. (USA)
I just took the Stansport Portable Butane heater on a boy scout camping trip. This was car camping where you are in a primitive area but you can lug in your stuff by car. It took a few minutes to figure out the operation of the heater. It is very simple, but I did not see mentioned one thing in the instructions. Inside the unit where you lay the butane can, there is a little metal tongue held down with a spring. Now you are supposed to lift up the tongue and but the nipple of the can into the regulator. Now I just layed the can in and put the tongue down. But you are supposed to line that tongue up with a cut out in the top of the can. Then the tongue flips down into the cut out, I guess to give one more method of securing the can.

But this thing is easy to use. When you start it, it can put out a little of puff of blue flame. After the initial startup, it works fine. A cant tell you exactly how long one can of butane lasted because I did not use it continuously.

I have seen mentioned the difficulty of getting the cans of butane. I found mine at Academy Sports. But the cans were not in the camping fuel isle. They were over by the outdoor grills. Apparently Academy sells a stove that uses the same butane and its is sold by the grills..... I did not see the cans at Walmart. However, you can easily get the butane by mail. I emailed Stansport and they recommended [...]

Also, one thing to remember. This heater has no fan so it acts like a regular heater. The heat doesnt move forward very far. Coleman does make a propane heater that has a fan that is powered by D batteries that looks interesting. I used a two man tent so I did not use the heater inside the tent. I would like to try the Coleman. Maybe, I could put it on a small stand outside but near the tent and let it blow through the tent mesh into the tent......?

The dimensions on the Stansport heater are about 10.5 inches wide. About 12 inches tall and about 8 inches deep. Its not heavy at all.

 "StanSport Outdoor Butane Heater" 2009-02-02

Portable Outdoor Butane Heater

I recently purchased this heater and have taken it with me camping twice. It is small and very efficent and seems safer and steadier than those little heaters attached to 16 oz propane cylinders that can sometimes tip over. Other campers saw it in operation and are going to order one. The butane cylinders are available in most sporting goods stores(Big Five, etc.) and even in my small town grocery store. They are not hard to find and are quite inexpensive, less than $1.50 each. This a great little heater.
