In the early 1950's, Dick Kelty made backpacks for his friends in the Sierra Club. Time and experience proved that hiking was more pleasurable when the hiker could carry heavy loads without shoulder pain. This was accomplished with Kelty's ideas of a hipbelt and light weight aluminum frames. A few of Kelty's popular items are backpacks, adjustable poles, rain covers for backpacks, camp pillows, fanny packs, a carport tent or shelter, Thermolite Quallo sleeping bags, and chuckwagon dog packs.

The CartarpKelty Cartarp Shelter (Navy/Grey)
The shelter sets up very nicely using velcro straps to connect the tarp to the luggage rack. However, I am only giving four stars because there is no apparent way to make the set-up tight enough to prevent puddling in the rain. I had to jury rig the velcros so there was a low corner, and when the puddle filled up the weight would dump the water on the low corner.
On the plus side, the shelter covers s lot of territory ... a three man tent and a seat with room to open the car doors. It stood up well for a couple of thunderstorms and dried quickly. I even fell asleep during one late night thuderstorm and awoke the next morning in a dry tent. It was great having my tent in the shade on the hot days and the extra rain coversge. The shelter is well-built ... light and strong. I would recomment this item for anyone who feels they can use it.
