Sometimes the simplest solutions are the best ones. I saw a friend using one of these at our kids' soccer game, and ordered my own. This makes anchoring your umbrella in the ground trivially easy, and has both vertical and angled holders for different times of day, or to have 2 umbrellas at once. The fact that there are 2 stakes makes it stable, and the fact that you can step on it to drive it into the ground is a little stroke of genius. It works very well on grassy fields regardless of dry/wet/hard/soft issues. I haven't tried it out on sand yet, but I would think it would require firm sand to work well. It is very sturdy and I expect that my son will be using it to watch his son play soccer some day.
I was satisfied with what I paid on Amazon, given the ease of ordering and quick shipping, but have since seen it cheaper at a local hardware store.

I purchased this umbrella stand to use during soccer season. It is very sturdy and the spikes push easily into the ground, allowing the stand to support just about any size umbrella. The two different holders (one upright, one off to the side) include thumb screws to tighten onto your umbrella pole. The stand is heavy duty and well constructed, and I expect will far outlast our need for it. This thing will last forever.
I think it is a bit overpriced, but just by a few dollars. If you check around you might find this locally for a few less dollars, but I didn't mind since it was delivered to my door.

I'm very happy with this item. It will hold up your umbrella at the park or at the beach. It's very handy to have, easy to put in the ground.

This works really great! It is very easy to get into the ground since you can use your feet on each side of the stand. That was the real reason I bought it. I could never get my umbrella in the ground easily on its own without my husband's help which was very frustrating since I hate to ask for help! The only problem I had was that my umbrella pole is pretty narrow and the screws were not long enough to secure it in the stand. The screws are also designed so that they cannot be removed so I was not able to just buy longer screws to solve the problem I was able to makeshift a way to keep my umbrella secure by trimming down a foam pool toy that has a hole in the center of it and placing it inside the stand to keep the umbrella snug so it wouldn't move around. Overall, I am very happy with the purchase and had an inquiry the first time I used it on where I purchased it.
