They use zip ties (yes cheap plastic zip ties) hidden under a piece of fabric that covers the bunched up ends. The fabric slides off (not sure it that is a failure or not) revealing the zip tie. I only noticed because the zip tie had broken and was hanging halfway off. This was after only a couple of nights use. I expect way more from a hammock that costs $200. I have also heard people say the tarp it comes with is not big enough to protect against rain, but I have no direct experience with this yet. The tarp is very high quality, but small. I have a larger sil-nylon tarp that I plan on using. I wish the hammock had a built-in pocket to slide a pad into. Overall I think it's a very good hammock, but I think it's over priced.

Innovative design, solid construction, easy setup, light weight. I often backpack where a tent isn't practical, this hammock keeps me off the ground and comfortable. Takes a little getting used to for sleeping, but great for back-sleepers and decent for side-sleepers. Don't forget to have a thin foam pad with you, as your underside gets cold.
