After checking out almost all of the sil tarps or guide tarps out there, I settled on this one. Packs fairly small, is moderately light weight and is the perfect size (7' x 9'). The construction of the tarp is excellent with reinfoced gromets.

This tarp is heavier than most because it is made of 40D silnyl, but that can be an advantage in rough weather. I just returned from an over-night backpacking trip during a thunderstorm and high winds. The S1, staked down, was fantastic at keeping out rain and wind. The grommets are reinforced very well. The length is actually 9 feet 6 inches, which I liked. Due to the catenary curve and my sewing in extra stake loops, the width of the interior is enormous: lots of room.



However, the tarp has some limitations:

(1) At 20 oz, it's heavier than 30D silnyl tarps, spinnaker, or cuben.

(2) It needs 4 more stake-outs for pitching it to the ground in high wind weather, so I sewed stake loops in.

(3) There is a curve along the ridge line, sloping down to the center. While this makes for excellent handling of wind, if you want a higher center, you won't get it. Also, when condensation forms, it does not drip down the sides very well. So, when the rain pelted my tarp, I was sprinkled with condensation. An A-frame would reduce this problem.



In sum, this is an excellent tarp, especially for the price. It also makes a great option for people wanting to use a tarp for the first time. You'll learn a great deal from how it's made and how it performs, and it won't break the bank.

The description on this product page is very thorough, so I will only highlight a few things. The construction of this product is of very high quality. It is pricey, but this time I think you get what you pay for. I read lots of reviews of tents on other websites and this one always got high marks. I bought it to take on a 2 and a half week motorcycle camping trip across the western US. The selling points were lightweight (since I also take it hiking) and compact. I really liked the single wall design that did not require a rain cover.



It is very roomy inside, enough for two people plus gear IF you do not use the vestibule. The vestibule floor space is at the expense of interior space. What I like to do is leave the vestibule attached on one side and not the other, so I have a sort of triangle vestibule for my shoes, etc and still have almost 9 feet on the other side (since I am over 6 feet tall). It is very quick to put together; pumping the air beams taking the most time. It took me about the same time to put mine together as it took my friend to put together his 2 man REI tent with rain fly.



I still cannot figure out how to attach the guy lines (the pictures do not match the instructions). However, even in wind and rain, the stakes held very well. I read reviews of people who used the guylines in snow and very high wind and said it was "bombproof". In my experiences, the stakes were enough and I never had a problem.



I have used it from Estes Park in the Rocky Mountains to just outside Death Valley, and it works great in both climates.



The single wall really does work. There are good vents in the sides and back that allow air flow to keep condensation out. And the spare air beams are small enough that you can always keep them with you. I have had the tent now for about a year and am very please. It is still in very good condition (I store it out of the back at home). I got the pawprint and footprint and highly recommend them both as well.

Roomy tent for two. The vestibule is great. A pain to set up at first. Highly recommend a paw and foot print for this tent ( or any tent for that matter ). This tent holds up very well in strong wind and rain. Ventilation is very good in keeping the moisture down to a minimal. Packs well horizontally in my Deuter Futura Vario 50 + 10 backpack.

I am sure some people are wondering what this is and why the heck they should buy it. This product snaps inside the tent to create a floor that is soft and easy to clean. It is made of a microfiber type of material. It folds up very small, is lightweight and easy to pack.

The Pawprint is really great if you dogs because it protects the floor from their paws and gives them a more comfortable place to sleep which is probably the intended use. I don't have dogs currently but I use this floor every time I camp because it makes cleaning out the tent a breeze. I just unsnap the Pawprint before breakdown and shake it out. The floor of the actual tent stays completely clean. It is washable when necessary. For summertime camping you can use this as a sheet below you and then just use a sheet and blanket on top of you.

I think it is worth the money and a cool addion to the Losi 3P Tent.

I have owned and tried a number of tents because we go car camping, motorcycle camping and backpacking. I am really not exaggerating when I say this is the best tent I have ever owned. It is so well made, the size is perfect and the system of accessories I ordered was great.



The packed size fits well on my motorcycle and the weight is very light. If you know you are going to have good weather you can save some size and weight by either leaving the rain fly home or using just the rain fly and footprint. There is a nice sized vestibule when using the rain fly. I do suggest ordering the Footprint and Pawprint. The Pawprint will make it a snap to keep the tent clean and if you have a dog they will love having it to lay on. This tent is very roomy for two people and a couple of dogs.



Setup



The setup took about 15 minutes the first time and now it takes 5 minutes if we don't use the rain fly (which we seldom use), 8 minutes if we do. There is no reason to stake the base of the tent unless it is windy. The Jakes Feet are very stable and hold the tent sturdy. The footprint clips on the straps that are attached to the Jakes Feet so there is no reason to stake the footprint. The Pawprint snaps right in the corners of the tent. If there is rain this is one of the few tents you will not get wet in, it really is designed well.



The tent has two doors, one on each side. It comes with a gear storage caddy that can be moved to either side of the tent. You can get a gear loft that snaps in the top but I haven't ever needed that with all the room the tent has. I do recommend the Pawprint and Footprint.
