 "Very satisfied" 2010-01-17
By Tom Sawyer (Eastern U.S.)
This item is perfect for my needs. I don't use it with the cot it's supposed to go with, I use it as a waterproof cover for numerous items or as an additional or substitute rainfly when camping/outdoors, etc. The camouflage is especially useful for covering items for which I don't have room to store inside i.e. a bike, etc., and this helps prevent would be thieves from discovering those items when they are poking around in your backyard on a winter's night! The quality and thickness of the material is good and the shape of it makes it somewhat easier to use as a weatherproof cover than a tarp. A hunter could easily use this as a "blind" by setting up a few sticks to hold it up and getting behind/underneath, or as an emergency shelter. It's very light and can be compressed into a small backpack with ease, and I bought the largest version (the double). The price is not bad for the quality and the shipping was prompt. I would definitely recommend it if you feel that it suits your needs. The Mossy oak breakup camo is beautiful, beats a regular blue tarp by a long shot!

A tent that is not waterproof, what do you do if it, uh, rains. Missing parts in another review. Delight? wow? great company? Not exactly factual terms. Also be warned if using the Cabela's website -- Cabela's picks and chooses the reviews you see, that is, the reviews there are biased.

 "big!!!" 2007-12-14
By James K. Peterson Jr. (Brainerd, MN, USA)
The dimensions advertised are correct. It's comfortable. But transportation of it is the problem. I have a full size car and this unit will not fit either in the back seat or the trunk. To use it I need to transport it with either my pickup truck or in a towed trailer. It's folded size is my ownly problem. Otherwise, it's good.... quality material and workmanship.

 "Great Company!" 2007-05-16
By Tyrone
Purchased this tent and was extremely satisfied with the construction and overall performance. There is ample room for 2. I am 6'2 and my girlfriend is 5'11 and no troubles sleeping. True, there is a bar in the middle that is under the built in sleeping pad but it really is not that bad. I did manage to break a clip that connects the tent to the support bar (completely my fault). So I called Kamp-Rite when I got back from my trip and they answered the phone right away and not only did they send out a brand new replacement part they sent out two, just in case this ever happened again. All free of charge!

 "Double Tent Cot" 2007-02-27
By M. Kirkpatrick
I purchased 2 doubles and am extremely pleased with them. They are comfortable despite the support bar that runs down the middle. There has been a lot said about the bar, but it is no inconvenience at all. It essentially creates a seperate cot on each side of the bar. I use one side to sleep on and the other to stow gear. The tent itself is large enough for 2 people easily.

The best part of the tent cot is the fact that you are up above the ground and it stays dry, warm (even in 20-30 degree temps), and comfortable no matter where you set camp.

The down side is the weight and size of the Tentcot when folded. For me it's not an issue since I load it onto a boat and camp out on river sand bars. If you had to physically carry it for any distance however, it would quickly become a pain.

As far as service is concerned I am overwhelmed by the assistance and support I received directly from Kamprite. When I received my cots one leg was broken while unpacking it from the container. I called Kamprite and they sent a replacement leg, free of charge, no questions asked. I would recommend this item for anyone who enjoys camping, wants to be comfortable, and doesn't want to bring a huge amount of gear with them.

(I recommend buying through Amazon since the shipping costs are very high if you use any other supplier. With Amazon it's free!)

"Quick simple setup and breakdown" 2007-01-22
By Henry F. Lawton
I think the Kamp-Rite Double Tent Cot is great. Quick simple setup and breakdown make it perfect for overnight trips. Be sure to fully digest the folded dimension though(too large for most auto interiors and trunks). Our's will just fit vertically over the rear seat but we plan to get a roof rack to carry it in the future.

We're still working on the comfort level which needs work (reason for 5th star missing). We also broke a clip which Kamp-Rite replaced promply at no cost. The tent is well made with interior pockets. There is room at the ends of the tent to stow some gear. We also purchased the belly storage bag. Works Good will last a long time.

 "oversize tent cot" 2010-03-06
By Terri Ryan (santa cruz, ca USA)
I had been wanting one of these for some time, when mine arrived I was pleased with the over all product. I use an expedition thermarest pad and it's very comfortable. I set it up the first time with no instructions. yeah it's that simple and fast.

At 6'4" I fit well inside, get something else if your any taller.

I will be buying two more for my kids.

Make sure that you air the new cot out before you sleep in it,the "new cot smell" is very toxic.

There's no reason to buy the extra rain fly or case, they come with the cot.

Hope this helps

 "It's great!" 2008-04-28
By Kevin Mueller (Seabrook, TX)
I just used my oversize Tent Cot for the first time and it performed beautifully. The first night, it rained for almost four hours and stayed bone dry with the rain fly on. On the second night, temperatures dipped down into the mid-40s and I stayed very warm with minimal cover. On the third night, it was in the mid-50s and I was so warm I didn't cover up with anything. When I woke up, it was about 60 degrees outside and I was sweating inside the tent cot since I had all of the doors shut.

I'm a big guy and slept great every night. I did add a 1.5 inch thick self-inflating sleeping pad, which I think is a must in order to get a good night's rest. The pre-installed pad is just too hard for my liking.

With all doors closed, the tent does not breathe very well, so condensation does occur on the inside on cool and cold nights. A couple hours with the doors rolled up takes care of this, though.

This was also the talk of camp. Everyone thought it was the coolest thing they had ever seen. A number of people said they would be purchasing one before our next trip in December.

I was very pleased with my first use of the oversize Tent Cot. It exceeded my expectations in all areas and I would recommend it to anyone that has room to transport it and isn't going to be carrying it far from their vehicle when camping.

"great tent/cot but be wary of stowed size (Would be 4 stars)" 2007-01-11
By S. Barger (DC)
This is a great product if you use it as a vehicle supported tent cot. My buddy and I ordered ours at the same time. We planned to put them up under a big enclosed awning. but the wind was so bad we couldn't get the awning up so we just camped in our tent cots. It was great! It wityhstood 30 mph gusts. There is a key/wallet/change pocket so they don't bounce around the cot. There was plenty of room for me, my next day's clothes a light and easy to get in and out of. Could sleep 2 if you really snuggle. BUT be wary. It does not stow down any smaller than the dimensions stated. I use a big truck and I bet it wouldn't stow in a compact trunk and would take up the whole back seat. It can be pretty airtight. I also used an additional camping pad to avoid the bend in the middle other reviews spoke of but I didn't have any problems at all and slept very, very comfortably. the only reason it doesn't rate 5 stars is the stowage size and I wish it had a strap inside for a light or camping fan. if it rains and you close allthe flaps it ill be pretty warm in the summer.

"Great tent, but does not "breath"...." 2007-01-09
By Russell L. Lloyd (Fairfax, VA)
I got this tent cot for quick setup, comfort and ease for when I go on overnight paintball outings. In fact, it is very easy to setup and is quite comfortable. However, the one MAJOR design flaw is that it has no roof vent. I now know why ALL other tents have a roof vent, and that is so the tent can breath. Most of my outings are in the dead of winter, so when sleeping, condensation builds up on the inside roof of the tent. When you lift your head in the morning, your head gets soaked from the condensation build-up. I do have a rainfly, which further holds in the moisture. I would think putting a roof vent in would greatly reduce the condensation because any moisture that does rise, will rise out to the rainfly, which in turn has adequate ventilation due to the nature of the air gap between the ranfly and the tent cot. Other than that one flaw, this is a great product. I'm curious how hot it will be in the summer. Although, I'm inclined NOT to use the rainfly unless absolutely necessary in the summer. Even if I did use the rainfly in the summer, I'd probably have all the flaps open on the tent to allow airflow.

"Perfect solution to a big camping problem" 2009-02-26
By CastletonTrader (Northern NY)
I gave this to my daughter for Christmas and she loves it. It is a quick solution to camping. Rather than have to pitch a big tent just for one night when visiting other campers it is easy to set this up and sleep in it. It is roomy and warm and very stable. It comes with a rain fly but I also bought the heavier duty rainfly that is sold separately because it is more waerproof and wind stable.

I used this product on a recent camping trip with my fried who bought his at the same time I did. Obviously they were made by 2 different manufacturers. His was almost rubber and mine was the same lightweight tent material. It didn't rain but it was incredibly windy, up to 30 mph gusts and the rainfly stayed on no problems.

"Suits it's purpose with excellence!" 2007-01-09
By Book Worm (Dallas, TX)
It transported quickly and easily with one person. Setup was a snap, requiring about two or three minutes by myself. Up, off the ground, dry and warm. Seals up nice and tight, especially with the optional rain fly. Got lots of looks and compliments on it's design by my fellow campers, who slept on the hard ground in their tents. I put a self inflating mattress in mine and life was good all night.

With all the zip down sides, this handy little tent will fit all my needs for winter through summer. It was a quality purchase and I'm glad I have it.

I especially recommend the oversized model for room to toss and turn. Pennies more to go first class!!!

This rain cover for our kamp-kot is just the ticket for rainy days camping, or for a surprise night-time shower! Nothing keeps you dry and comfy better than the rain cover made for this item.  "better than tent" 2009-06-10
By K. naziri (ca)
This is a great product. It sets up faster than a tent and it is comfy to sleep in. but they could have done a better job with ventilation. There should be some open vent area with some netting on the top kind of like a regular tent but there is none. This makes the inside build up humidity and especially in a cold day you will have a lot of condensation on the walls. In fact, it will get really wet. Other than that the double is very heavy and bulky to carry in the car.

Customer Buzz
 "Good camping tent/cot" 2009-02-20
By M. Kirkpatrick
This is a great design that keeps you "high and dry" and provides a suprising amount of room inside. It's very easy to set up and take down. I would not recommend this for anyone who plans to use it for backpacking as it's very large and bulky even when folded up. It comes with a great carrying and storage case and can be easily thrown in the back of a truck or most larger cars. It's also a bit heavy so you won't want to carry it far.

The interior is roomy and has some nice features like pockets for small items and bungies to hold open zip up windows and flaps. You can sleep two in the tent but it would be a bit crowded if you're plannig on two large people. I'm 6'1" 250lbs and fit in it with plenty of room by myself and even with my 9 year old kid.

The cot underneath has a bar that runs directly down the middle of the tent so you have to sleep on one side or the other. Trying to lie on the bar is very uncomfortable. I usually sleep on one side and stow all my gear on the other.

I've only had one problem with the manufacture of the tent. The clips that attach the tent to he support frame were made of plastic and broke after the second use. (I own 2 of these tentcots and it only happened to one of them. The other has had no issues.) I've seen some that have metal attachments so perhaps they've fixed this issue. It's worth looking into though. If you do get one with plastic clips you can always use zip ties to attach to the metal frame and they'll work fine.

Overall, a good product. I like it and highly recommend it.

 "Fast and easy setup" 2007-01-23
By Henry F. Lawton
The fly fits well and is well made. Have'nt tested in rain yet but we treat all our gear with seam sealer and spray. The ventilation is poor compared to tents that vent directly through the tent roof. The setup and breakdown is where this tent and fly really shine. You can put the fly on so quickly there is no need to put it on unless it's really needed.

 "Great fun for kids" 2007-01-07
By Crypto (CA USA)
We put this tent up in the back yard this Summer for my two kids and they loved it. Since this truly is two cots, be aware that only two people can sleep in this tent. The up thrusting metal bar between the two cots makes it impossible for a third person to sleep in the middle.

 "Fantastic Product!" 2010-04-20
By Dallas A. Babineaux (Mackinaw, IL USA)
Some of the reviews focus on this item being too large for backpack camping...... of course it's too big! That isn't what you should be buying this product for. LOL! What this product DOES DO is provide a PERFECT solution for car camping & other activities where you need a nice place to spend the night outdoors. The material is thicker than most tents, the zippers are beefy, setup is a snap, it has huge openings on all four sides, it supports up to 500lbs and most importantly it KEEPS YOU OFF the cold lumpy ground. I found it to be everything the manufacturer says it would be. Also, the storage bag is actually a little bigger than it needs to be; years back it seemed all storage bags were made to store the product when packaged from the factory as you could hardly ever get the item back into it once you used it. Some folks have mentioned that the hold down straps that keep the ends of the cot from folding up have a tendancy to break. The instructions say to attach those clips to the BOTTOM of the middle support legs (The clips will be touching the ground), it appears that the BOTTOM support tubing is a little larger in diameter than the tubing that is positioned just above it. I think the clips won't break if you attach them there instead. Overall, a GREAT item, I would definately recommend this to a friend.

"Very impressive product! Would recommend to anyone!" 2010-03-05
By Michael C. Hartley (Bryceville, FL)
I will give you a bit of info on me so that others who were in my boat will be able to better understand. Im a large guy @ 6'5" and 330lbs. So for those of you wondering how it will hold up to us big guys, it did well. I never felt like it was under too much strain and was also long enough. I bought this tentcot with intentions of using it on monthly Boy Scout campouts. We generally dont hike in to our sleeping quarters otherwise you might be leaving this at home unless you have a pack mule to carry it for you. That was one of the biggest issues, but I knew this before getting it, so it was an expected problem. I have a truck, so it fits in the bed of it easily, if you have a small car that the rear seat doesnt fold down to slide it through you will be strapping this thing to the roof, it is large(see product for dimensions). I did buy an air mattress to fit inside, and fits almost perfectly to the inside dimensions, only problem with that for us longer people, with the approx. 8" of height added from the mattress and with the gradual taper from the ends of the tent, you lose about 6" of length(roughly). In otherwords your head and feet will be touching the ends at full extension if you are 6'5" or taller. I dont see it as a problem for me because I dont sleep at full extension, although I did not use this during my campout yet to see how it worked. I took the tentcot on its first excursion to Woodbadge(Scout Leadership Training), and it just happened to be in the low 20's so it got a good test, as well as a little bit of rain, but it held up well, and was very comfortable. Something else I need to mention is there is a bar that runs through the middle of the bed, its as if there were 2 cots stacked side by side, so if you were thinking of getting the double so that you could spraul out, you will definitely need the air mattress. I like this bar, because im a side sleeper and dont roll around much when sleeping so it was very comfy. I used the other side to set up all of my camping gear(backpack, clothes, lantern etc...). I also bought the underneath gear storage bag, i thought i would use this for my shoes and things that might be dirty or smell, to keep the tent clean, but also keeping the stuff from getting soaked in the rain if left outside. Its also very easy to setup. I do recommend practice at home, but after one try at home, I saw how easy it was, and you will always be the 1st one finished setting up your tent! As I use it more, I may notice more good or bad things, but for now I am very pleased with my product. And everyone that sees it will want one!

I thought when I bought the double tent that I could sprawl out and have a big bed but there is a bar right in the middle of it so you have to sleep on one side or the other, I now use the other side for my cloths and shoes. I am use to sleeping in a camper but this is great for my 4x4 trips, It is pretty comfortable and I sleep well in it.

Its a little bulky measuring when folded 4'7"L x 2'10"H x 7". Over all I am very happy that I bought it.

 "Kamp Rite rainfly" 2009-07-19
By Wu Tang
The Kamp Rite rainfly is essential to a peaceful rest and should be included with the tent-cot because a tent-cot is intended to be used outdoors. I have 'The Original' tent-cot and the rainfly fits to the form of the tent-cot; but I have seen pictures that show a rainfly that has a pointed, dome-like effect when installed. The Kamp-Rite designs are patented and are said to meet US Military standards.

 "Original Tent Cot" 2009-07-01
By Joung R. Cook (McLean, VA)
I used it to sleep in it during a driving trip to Newfoundland and Labrador in early June. The tent cot worked nicely.

1. Small enough to carry in my car when folded and pouched.

2. Quick and easy to put up and take down.

3. Cramped but comfortable to sleep in once settle in it.

4. The ground dampness does not bother me at all.

but...

1. It rains inside when outside temperarture was under coold enough. My breath condenced on inside surface of the tent.

2. It is very cramped inside. Changing cloths is a real challenge.

3. Air circulation is not very good. Do not ever smoke inside. It will burn or make holes very very easily. It is so small inside that you will die from lack of fresh air.

"Sweet; compact enough to lie upon so is always ready." 2008-10-02
By J. Hester (D/FW, TX USA)
This saw me through a real downpour in Missouri once. I saw it coming at me while I was on a hill in a beautiful tree nursery south of Springfield, just off the highway. No one was around as it was Saturday night. Storm was coming from the south, sprinkle started just after I got all stowed away. As I drifted off, I soon was aware that it was a bit windy with much stronger rain and was thinking the local newspaper the next day might have headlines about a drifter blown away while in his tentcot on top of Nursery Hill (or something to that effect, ahahah).

The morning came to be quite beautiful, with very little to dry out it only took minutes. After a dump in the taller weeds; a curteous jesture as I was thankful to stay at that wonderful location, I was soon to ramble on my motoring way with the Tentcot gear all stowed away behind the passenger seat in my '03 Honda Civic Hybrid which will nurse my gas at only 1 gallon for every 60 miles.

All that I felt all night was a mist at most. Very dry in my book, compared to what was happening around me. Since, I have also added a sleeping bag mattress that expands. I hope that will provide greater insulation needed during possibly extreme cold weather like when once I passed through El Paso, TX on my way home to Dallas/Ft.Worth from Arizona once at Christmas. Temps really dipped and my underside in a down sleeping bag really got too cool. The Tentcot is so great a system though, I will do anything to make this thing adapt to whatever I encounter in the future. It is truely just too neat!!!

This is a hard item to find. It worked very well and I would not own a TentCot with out the rainfly...

"Good accessory for your tent cot" 2007-02-05
By Timothy Steinhoff (Pembroke, Bermuda)
I recently purchased the tent cot and decided that it would be best to have the rain fly to go along with it. The rainfly fits snuggly with elastic corners. Also, there are straps that attach to the ends of the cot with clips. The sides tie down in four places to prevent it from flying around when you don't have it fully zipped up. My only gripe and the reason it doesn't get five stars is that I think it should have just come with the tent cot in the first place rather than having to order it separately.
