"It seems I've just received version 2!" 2010-01-12
By Rudi Szalai
Great tent, specially for 120CAD to my door)

1. Mine is polyester with PU coating instead of the first version's inferior nylon material.

2. The problems with the grommets many people complained about were fixed.

3. This version is not rectangular, it is a bit wider at the back

Remaining issues/interesting things:

It is still a little bit hard to slide in the poles because the coating on the inside of the pole channels sticks to the poles. Not a big issue, more of a minor inconvenience. (It seems it gets better after a few setup)

It comes with 12 stakes while the full stakeout requires 17 stakes. $5 to buy the rest and you will need them only during a really bad storm.

Overall I'm really happy with it. I will use it for snow camping next weekend, if anything bad will come up with it I will let you know.

"Amazing deal for the price!" 2009-07-14

I've used it three times now and am completely satisfied with it. I live in Idaho so between camping, backpacking and white water rafting this is perfect. Functionality=10 Size and wieght=10 the only thing that concerns me is that the stiching around the door seems as if it's a bit thin and may come loose. (Hopefully an easy fix) and it's a little tricky getting the poles out of there fabric tracks (They stick to the fabric) Other than that I'm very pleased with the purchase. 4 season tent for under 100.00 bones, cant go wrong in retrospect to the competition.

 "Great bad weather tent" 2009-04-28
By Frank Thompson (Prince George, BC Canada)
I'd have to say the tent your purchasing is the quality of a 300 to 400 dollar 3 season tent. It weighs about 7.2 pounds with the carry bag and vestible. I bought it after searching for months online and in store for a strong tent that would hold up to the elements of the north. I hunt alot and have a sheep and goat hunt this year so I needed one that was going to be easy to put up and tear down as well as handle the strong winds you get when in the mountains. I set it up inside the day I got it. The pole guides were tight and I torn a tiny peice of fabric the first time but it was a easy patch and didn't do anything to the structure of tent during setup. After streching it out. I chose a day in the 30's with a 20kmh wind and snow on the ground. The tent went up alot quicker. The vestible clips in easy, and the guy ropes helped tighten the tent to the ground in the wind. I slept in my down bag and could not believe how warm and dry the tent kept through the night. It is perfect for two people and their packs, the vestible has room for two pairs of boots. You can't beat the price of the tent and the quality.

"With a little maintenance this is an excellent tent." 2009-04-08
By A. Tumiati
If you are considering buying this tent, I would say go for it BUT REPLACE THE GROMMETS before you use it or you may be sorry. This tent has many excellent features and I am very pleased with the purchase. I knew about the "grommet problem" when I purchased this tent thanks to other reviewers and I am very thankful. The first time I set the tent up, 4 of the grommets broke off! If I had been in the middle of the woods when this happened I would have been in very big trouble. Before I took the tent out in the woods (see pics) I replaced the grommets and sealed all the seams. As I said, there are many good features about this tent:

PROS: It is a strange contradiction but aside from the junk grommets this tent seems to be made out of very high quality material. The zippers are high quality and seem to be well manufactured. They have also included an extra triangle of fabric around where the zippers meet to increase water-resistance. This is an excellent feature. There is also a down flap covering the zippers on the front door which also adds to the water-resistance.

The poles are made of aluminum and seem to be of high quality. As one other reviewer mentioned, the poles are a challenge to thread through the material the first few times you set this tent up, but this gets better over time. I used some waxed paper on the tent poles while threading them through but it didn't do much good. By the fourth time I set the tent up this wasn't really an issue any more. The tent stakes are very lightweight and sturdy also.

Another big pro about this tent is the design itself. In my opinion, this tent is designed better than most backpacking tents costing 3 or 4 times as much. The internal venting is highly customizable which keeps condensation down considerably and gives you a lot of control from the inside of the tent. That is very important to me since I like to camp throughout the year.

Weighing in at around 7 pounds, this tent may be a bit heavier than other backpacking tents but in my opinion, I'll take an extra pound or so for a little extra space and better features. The tent is very comfortable for one person. I am 6 feet tall and had plenty of room. Two backpackers could fit in this tent without killing each other, so long as they didn't have too much gear with them. The compression sack is an interesting design. I'm not sure if I love it or hate yet it but it gets the job done.

The rain fly attaches to the tent by adjustable straps, which is a nice feature. Setup is also pretty simple for one person once you get the hang of it. The support ropes are pretty straight-forward and are well made.

CONS: There are a few, unfortunately. I have already mentioned the grommet issue. The grommets are ¼ inch (not 3/8s!) and are a pretty simple fix. Your local hardware store or sowing store will likely have the grommet kit to fix this under ten dollars. The poles are a little challenging to get through the fabric the first few times you set this tent up. You also have to be careful when you are flexing the poles as the material tightens considerably attaching the poles to the grommets. If you get in a hurry while doing this, I feel you could damage the tent.

TO SUM UP: If you don't mind putting a little work into this tent by fixing the grommets you will have an excellent tent with many good features at a very affordable price. The design of this tent is outstanding for backpacking in my opinion and I would buy the tent again. The first time I used it, the temperature dropped into the twenties and the second night it rained. I was warm and dry and had little to no condensation in the tent. I was very surprised and impressed. I also have a High Peak backpack and have found it to have many features that the others don't while costing 3 or 4 times as much.

 "all season tent" 2008-08-12
By Linda Whitworth
The tent is great for camping BUT it takes a long time to put up because the stiching is too tight for the rods. I'm hoping it will loosen up with use, but I have my doubts. If not for that purpose I would dearly love the tent. Time to put up and take down a tent is of essence to me and that simply put is just not the case with this tent. I am disappointed.
